This was announced by First Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture Taras Vysotskyy at the forum “Bread Industry 2026” on May 12, Interfax-Ukraine reports. He noted that weather risks now concern corn, as this crop is most dependent on the timing of sowing, temperature regime and moisture level during the growing season.

“At the same time, the forecast for wheat and barley is quite realistic and reliable to ensure food balance, and the agricultural sector demonstrates the ability to adapt even in difficult conditions,” Taras Vysotsky said. According to him, the current spring campaign is more difficult due to the cold spring and soil overwatering, which delayed the sowing of late crops.

According to preliminary estimates, the harvest of major grain crops in Ukraine may amount to:

  • wheat – about 22.4 million tons;
  • barley – about 4.7 million tons;
  • corn – about 31.6 million tons.

Earlier, Logos Press reported that according to preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA), about 430-440 thousand hectares have been sown with winter crops for the harvest-2026 in Moldova, which is about 15-20% less than in the previous season. The situation with cereals is worse, in particular, sowing of winter wheat is unlikely to exceed 300 thousand ha (in 2024 – 351 thousand ha).

The data on the projected amount of grain for the 2026 harvest have not yet been released to the country’s information space. MAIA staff claim that the process of collecting primary data on the condition of winter crops is being finalized, and no later than the end of this year – beginning of the future the first forecast of grain production in the current year will appear.
