
Growth was recorded in all market segments. Revenues from outbound tourism increased by 17.6%, from inbound tourism – by 21.5%, and from domestic tourism – by 15.4%.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, almost 66 thousand people used the services of travel companies, which is 11.4% more than a year earlier. Domestic tourism showed the highest growth rates: the number of trips within the country increased by 41.5%. The number of citizens who traveled abroad through travel agencies increased by 5%, while inbound tourism decreased by 1.5%.
Outbound tourism still holds the largest market share – more than half of total tourism activity. Domestic tourism accounted for 27%, while inbound tourism accounted for 18.9%.
During the first three months of the year Moldova was visited by 12,4 thousand foreign tourists and excursionists. Most of them came for recreation purposes, while Romania remains the main source of tourist flow.
Among foreign destinations among Moldovan residents Egypt is the leader. Also among the most popular destinations are Romania, Turkey, Bulgaria and Italy.
