Work is currently underway to construct a new access road under the overpass, as well as to build pedestrian infrastructure. New sidewalks and steps are being built in the area.
A key component of the project will be the technological modernization of the intersection. The entire transportation hub has been equipped with modern “smart” traffic lights connected to a new traffic management system. These lights adapt to traffic flow and optimize travel times on the city’s main thoroughfares.
As emphasized by the capital’s administration, the municipal authorities’ goal is to create a fully-fledged smart transportation corridor that will connect the main districts of Chisinau.
In addition, the digitally monitored route will provide a direct connection between the airport area and the North Railway Station. In the next phase, the project is planned to be expanded toward Calia Orheiului Street.
To ensure the new traffic management system operates effectively, the project calls for the modernization of several major nearby intersections in the capital and their integration into a unified network.
Once the work is completed, the intersection on Izmail Street will have a modernized traffic management system capable of more effectively handling the increased traffic in Chisinau.
