This was reported by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which provided revised data on motor vehicles authorized in the country with a carrying capacity of at least 3,500 metric tons, with a service life of no more than 25 years, operating commercial or in-house routes both domestically and internationally.
According to results obtained through the ASTRM, from January through March 2026, these vehicles (including leased ones) transported 7.0 million metric tons of cargo, and the freight turnover amounted to 1,710.6 million metric ton-kilometers. Of the total volume of cargo transported, 18.1% (1.3 million metric tons) was carried on international routes.
The structure of freight traffic shows that domestic traffic predominates in terms of volume (81.9%) and international traffic in terms of freight-ton-kilometers (65.8%), reflecting the difference between cargo weight and transport distance.
Domestic transport generally generates a larger volume in metric tons but a lower freight turnover due to shorter distances. International traffic to or from outside the country, including transit, accounted for the bulk of freight turnover (in ton-kilometers), as the delivery distance is significantly longer.
The structure of transported cargo by commodity group (category) is classified based on the European Harmonized Nomenclature (NST). As part of the initial experimental results of the ASTRM survey, the NBS categorized the transported cargo into 20 key divisions (categories).
Detailed files containing precise numerical matrices for each of the 20 categories are available in the attached tables (.xlsx) to the official release on the agency’s website.
