Axios notes that Trump’s decision reflects both his willingness to give diplomacy more room to maneuver and his acknowledgment that the current level of U.S. strikes has reached the limit of its effectiveness.
At the same time, it is noted that it is unclear whether President Trump’s decision was a one-time occurrence.
Sources for the website reported that the U.S. military continues to prepare plans for a possible return to large-scale combat operations, but Trump has not issued any orders in that regard.
