
The first of these establishes general minimum rules for the international transport of live animals, including the responsibilities of carriers involved in this process. The document’s goal is a humane one—to adhere to uniform European standards that prevent animal suffering.
The second convention concerns minimum welfare standards for farm animals in breeding and care. Among other things, the document reflects the development of livestock farming technologies with regard to animal protection.
Both documents will contribute to the harmonization of the Republic of Moldova’s legislation with the European Union’s acquis communautaire and with European standards in the field of animal husbandry, according to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture.
