Alexander Munteanu, Maia Sandu
Maia Sandu reported that she had discussions with the prime minister this week regarding reforms that have sparked widespread public debate, particularly tax reform and labor compensation reform.
“This week, I had several discussions with the Prime Minister about reforms that have sparked a great deal of controversy in society, especially tax reform and labor compensation reform. And yes, I believe these reforms could have been developed, coordinated, and explained better so that we could gain the public’s support and their confidence that what we are doing is in the country’s best interest.”
Sandu believes that a number of decisions need to be reevaluated.
“We need to rethink a number of decisions, including tax policy and the law on wages. The government must have a united, strong team that will work toward our national goal—EU accession. Decisive steps are needed to implement economic development measures and clean up our institutions,” the head of state said.
The president called on civil servants to continue their work and not lose faith in the country’s future.
“I urge those who have worked honestly and conscientiously thus far not to lose their enthusiasm and faith in the country’s future. We must ensure that Moldova joins the European Union and that the country continues to develop.”
Responding to a question about her relationship with Alexandru Munteanu and possible disagreements, Maia Sandu stated that there were no fundamental disagreements between him and the government:
“I don’t think there were any disagreements. At least, these issues were not expressed or voiced. Both Mr. Munteanu and I have worked and continue to work with honesty and integrity. I have also been guided by honesty and integrity in all my work over the years, including during very difficult periods when I did not give up.”
As a reminder, when announcing his resignation, Alexandru Munteanu stated that he had decided to step down after concluding that he could no longer fulfill his duties in accordance with his principles and convictions. “The moment I realized that I could no longer fulfill my mandate in accordance with the principles and convictions I hold dear, I decided to step down,” Munteanu said in a statement announcing his resignation.
