According to her, the government is currently conducting calculations to determine how much funding it will be able to allocate for compensation and to whom it will be provided.
“But the question here is what resources can be found domestically, how much funding can be secured from our development partners, and whether they will still be able to provide such support. As you know, in previous years, a significant portion of the funds allocated for compensation came from our external partners, particularly from EU countries and the European Union. We’ll have to see now, because the whole world is facing challenges. This drought has created problems everywhere. The heat this summer, rising prices, the war in Iran—all of this is creating problems for everyone,” Sandu said on public radio.
The president also emphasized that compensation will be provided, but the government will announce the final amounts and categories of recipients after the calculations are complete. According to her, as usual, assistance will be directed first and foremost toward people with lower incomes.
“It is clear that energy costs still account for a significant share of household expenditures in the Republic of Moldova, and rising prices are affecting more and more people,” the head of state noted.
It should be noted that the government promises to provide energy compensation again this year. However, it intends to direct the assistance specifically to those who need it most.
Approximately 2.36 billion lei were allocated in the budget for compensation payments during the 2025–2026 season, and the maximum compensation amount was reduced to 1,000 lei.
