Pre-election poll in Gagauzia: almost 50% reported income below 5000 lei per month

This significant economic disparity compared to the Moldovan average may become a determining factor of electoral preferences in the region.

This conclusion is made by the director of the sociological company ATES research group, Veronica Ates. The company conducted the survey commissioned by the Promo-LEX Association on the eve of the elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.

Its results were presented yesterday in Comrat within a round table. The survey was conducted on March 14-18, with the participation of 410 residents of the autonomy.

Interest in international politics is higher

In general, the survey showed that they are more interested in international politics compared to politics in the region or in Moldova.

According to the survey, 54,2% of respondents believe that events in Gagauzia are developing in the wrong direction, and 27,3% – in the right direction. At the same time, 71,9% of respondents expressed the opinion that the events in Moldova are also developing in the wrong direction. Only 15,4% presented the opposite point of view.

The elections of the bashkan in Gagauzia are considered to be the most important ones

At the same time, the elections of the Bashkan of Gagauzia are considered the most important by its citizens (81.4% of the poll participants), emphasized the program director of Promo-LEX, Nicolae Panfil. He confirmed the organization’s intention to send observation missions to the upcoming elections in the region.

Next in terms of importance for the residents of the autonomy are the presidential (76.4%) and parliamentary (66.9%) elections in Moldova, as well as the elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia (75.8%).

More than a half of respondents (51,5%) consider that in Gagauzia there are no or exist, but to a small extent, conditions for holding free and fair elections. And less than a half (39,7%) hold the opposite point of view.
