Alexander Stoyanoglo
Alexander Stoyanoglo, a member of Parliament and former Prosecutor General of Moldova, wrote on social media that, according to recent reports, more than 1,250 people in Moldova’s public sector alone earn over one million lei per year.
“There are no such salaries in Europe,” Stoyanoglo wrote. “One of the officials, responding to questions about salaries in Parliament, stated: ‘Our salaries are at the European level.’”
The lawmaker does not find this “argument” convincing. “Let’s first provide services at the European level. Let’s face the realities of the day.”
The former prosecutor general asks: Why, given the massive budget deficit and the country’s urgent need for funds, can’t such salaries be capped, with the freed-up funds directed to the state budget for the three main functions of the state—education, healthcare, and public safety? For the people, not for maintaining the bureaucratic apparatus.
