The project, dubbed the “Integrated Railway Network” (ZSK), is part of a national strategy to strengthen transportation infrastructure and improve connections between the country’s regions, according to TVPWorld.

The plan includes the construction of approximately 4,700 km of new lines, of which 2,700 km will be designated for high-speed trains, as well as the modernization of 5,600 km of existing infrastructure.

All of Poland—in Three Hours

One of the project’s main goals is the “Poland in 100 Minutes” concept: the development of a high-speed transportation network along the main east-west and north-south axes, which will significantly reduce travel time between major cities (to approximately one hour). The concept aims to connect major urban centers in about one hour and 40 minutes or less.

The “Port Polska” Project

The railway program is closely linked to the development of the “Port Polska” megaproject, which includes the construction of a new major airport located approximately 45 km west of Warsaw. Its opening is scheduled for 2032. The airport will be connected to high-speed rail networks, highways, and logistics infrastructure.

Polish authorities have stated that the new rail system will integrate air and road transport, creating a national transportation hub with easy access from all regions of the country.

Economic Impact

The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately 610 billion zlotys (about 143 billion euros, of which 97 billion euros will be allocated for the construction of new lines and 46 billion euros for the modernization of existing infrastructure).

Government officials claim that the project will lead to a significant increase in passenger numbers: it is estimated that by 2050, the number of rail trips will reach 720 million per year (compared to 439 million currently).

Safety

Polish authorities emphasize that the new railway infrastructure will also play a strategic role, as it is designed as dual-use infrastructure, including to ensure military mobility. Officials have called the ZSK network a key element in enhancing the country’s resilience in the current regional security context.

The first 1,000 km of new lines are scheduled for completion by 2035, including high-speed service between Warsaw and the future “Port Polska” airport, as well as the cities of Łódź, Poznań, and Wrocław.
