According to the power transmission operator Moldelectrica, electricity consumption between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. was approximately 1.5% higher than the previous day, euronews.ro reports.
The country’s authorities urged citizens to avoid using large household appliances simultaneously, reduce unnecessary lighting, and postpone energy-intensive activities until off-peak hours. These measures were recommended amid strain on the power grid caused by high temperatures and increased demand for electricity.
The result sparked a variety of reactions on social media. Some users mocked the fact that the call to conserve energy was accompanied by an increase in consumption, while others attributed the rise to the heat and heavy use of air conditioners.
However, representatives of energy companies state that a single day is not enough to assess the campaign’s impact, and that consumption trends depend on several factors, including air temperature and economic activity. Authorities continue to urge the public to reduce consumption during peak hours to limit the strain on the power grid.
