It has been reported that decorative lighting on buildings under the city government’s jurisdiction will be turned off, with the exception of certain elements that consume little energy and are turned on at the same time as street lighting. Since street lighting in the capital ensures public safety, it will not be turned off.
Watering of public areas will be carried out at night, with the exception of three locations where the schedule is different and cannot be changed. These are Mircea cel Bătrân Avenue, Dacia Boulevard, and the square near the Central Cathedral.
It would be negligent to leave green spaces—in which the capital’s residents have invested—without watering. If these areas dry out, it will take years to restore them. For manual watering of the greenery, water is drawn daily using pumps from rescue stations on Chisinau’s lakes, city officials explain.
The city’s fountains operate on water that is replenished once a month. Since they were filled with water at the beginning of this week, no additional water will be needed for the next month.
Streets, sidewalks, and park paths will also continue to be washed. City officials emphasize that only industrial water from the Chisinau mine is used for this purpose, and it must be pumped out daily to prevent flooding.
