Stefanishyna had served as Ukraine’s ambassador to Washington since 2025. News of her departure from her diplomatic post broke two days ago—on August 3. Stefanishyna herself stated that the decision was due to personal circumstances.

According to the Financial Times, her resignation may have been linked to an investigation into a real estate transaction. The publication Hromadske reported that in 2022, Stefanishyna’s mother purchased an apartment measuring approximately 100 square meters in Kyiv for $83,200. At the same time, journalists noted that the minimum price for similar apartments was around $300,000.

Stefanyishyna stated that the purchase was related to the family’s investment in housing construction several years earlier, when prices differed from current levels.

According to Ukrainian media reports, the new charge may be related to an investigation being conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine—a government agency responsible for investigating corruption crimes among high-ranking officials. Former Ukrainian Minister of Justice Olena Lukash, who served under President Viktor Yanukovych, was previously implicated in this case.

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have not yet disclosed details of the new charge or specified what actions Stefanišina is accused of.

It should be noted that Olga Stefanišina was appointed Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States on August 27, 2025. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration (2020–2025) and, concurrently, as Ukraine’s Minister of Justice (2024–2025). She also served as the Ukrainian President’s Special Representative for Cooperation with the United States (July–August 2025).
