Moldova to receive 218 million euros from IBRD “on very favorable terms”

The government approved the signing of a 218-million-euro loan agreement between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) for the implementation of a program of operations on sustainable growth policies.

Finance Minister Andrian Havrilice was authorized to sign the agreement.

“We are talking about 218 million euros for 30 years with a grace period of 9 years, under very favorable conditions. Within the program, some preliminary reform measures have already been implemented. We are talking about modernizing the public procurement system, improving the business environment, increasing financial transparency, reforms in education and labor market, as well as bringing the energy and transport sectors in line with the standards of the European Union,” the Minister said.

The programme covers key sectors: public administration, economic competitiveness, social protection, energy, environmental protection and digitalization of the economy. In order to receive funding, Moldova has committed to fulfill 14 conditions. At the moment, seven measures of the first phase have already been implemented.
