The Ministry notes that pupils will be able to demonstrate their skills in solving practical problems in the field of AI, and the best participants will have the opportunity to compete for a place on the national team to take part in the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI).
The second ONIA Olympiad will take place in a new format: participants will solve problems individually rather than in teams. Registration will run from November to December 2026, and the national round is scheduled for 6 March 2027 and will take place in person.
The competition is open to pupils enrolled in educational institutions in Moldova. Over a four-hour period, each participant will have to solve three practical problems on a specialised computer platform.
The tasks will assess participants’ ability to process data, train and evaluate machine learning models, and interpret the results obtained. Topics may include machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing and deep learning.
All prize-winners will be eligible to take part in an additional selection round to form the national team. The selection of Moldova’s representatives for the International Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) will depend on the results of this round, the number of places available and the requirements of the international competition.
The Olympiad is organised by the National Association of ICT Companies (ATIC) as part of the ‘Tekwill în Fiecare Școală’ project, in collaboration with the National Agency for Curricula and Assessment (ANCE) and the Ministry of Education and Research of Moldova.
