Ministry of Education offers Romanian language teachers up to 15,000 euros for teaching in Gagauzia

Moldova's Ministry of Education will provide financial incentives of up to 15,000 euros to Romanian-speaking teachers who agree to transfer to schools and kindergartens in Gagauzia, a Russian-speaking autonomous region with a predominantly Turkic-Gagauz population in the south of the country.

The measure, announced on Monday by Minister Dan Perciun, comes into effect this year and aims to expand educational services in Romanian in the autonomy, Agerpres reported.

According to the minister, the employment bonus of up to 15,000 euros is granted on condition of a commitment to teach in educational institutions in the region for at least three to five years. The authorities in Chisinau are considering hiring 30-50 teachers at the first stage, which is considered “more than enough to start”.

“We should create incentives and implement the project this year,” Perciun said. He noted that one of the practical problems remains solving the housing situation, although teachers from districts adjacent to Gagauzia may choose to commute daily.
