According to the EU Delegation to Moldova, the ceremony will bring together local and regional leaders from across Europe to discuss energy and climate solutions.

Mayors will have the opportunity to participate in discussions and workshops, exchange experiences, and establish professional contacts with representatives of European institutions and local government leaders from various European countries.

The event will focus on the role of cities and regions in addressing pressing challenges—from rising and volatile energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty to increasing climate risks. Participants will discuss how local authorities are translating European goals into concrete projects, investments, and citizen-led initiatives.

The organizers note that following the ceremony, there will be a closed-door event on energy poverty, organized by the Energy Poverty Advisory Hub, with the participation of representatives of local and regional authorities, policymakers, and experts.

Registration for the event is now open. The ceremony will take place on October 15.

The Covenant of Mayors is a global initiative to combat climate change and address energy issues at the local level. The cities that have signed the covenant—including the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti— are promoting actions to support the EU’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2050 compared to 1990 levels.
