According to *The Wall Street Journal*, Trump signed the document on August 13.

The U.S. president has long advocated for this move, considering electromagnetic systems to be too complex and unreliable. The U.S. Navy tried to oppose this decision due to the high cost of redesigning the ships.

The changes will affect the fourth Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier, which is to be named Doris Miller. The electromagnetic catapult system will remain on the first three aircraft carriers of this class.

The last U.S. aircraft carrier built with a steam catapult was the USS George H. W. Bush, which entered service in 2009.
