“Russia’s threats against Kiev will not intimidate us,” the Latvian portal DELFI quoted the Foreign Ministry’s statement as saying. – We are not leaving Kiev. It is Russia that should leave. Latvia firmly supports Ukraine.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry also said that a note of protest had been sent to Russia. A Lithuanian Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized: “We are not going anywhere and we support Ukraine. The threat to use force is a blatant violation of the UN Charter”.
Earlier in the day, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and the EU announced similar measures.
The European External Action Service (EEAS) summoned Russia’s acting permanent representative to the EU, spokeswoman Anitta Hipper said.
Brussels has called on Moscow to stop strikes on civilians and engage in “genuine peace talks, starting with a complete and unconditional ceasefire”. “The EU delegation in Ukraine remains in Kiev,” Hipper emphasized.
