The total investment will amount to 804.2 billion tenge ($1.65 billion). The facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2030. The capacity of the future complex in Aktau will allow for the annual production of up to 660,000 tons of ammonia, about 580,000 tons of urea, and 500,000 tons of ammonium nitrate, according to the local edition of Forbes.

“The implementation of this project is of strategic importance for the development of the country’s agrochemical industry. Currently, urea is not produced in Kazakhstan but is imported from neighboring countries. As a nitrogen fertilizer, urea is widely used in agriculture as a primary fertilizer on all soil types for various crops and remains in high demand on the domestic market,” commented the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan.

Today, the only domestic producer of nitrogen fertilizers in Kazakhstan is KazAzot JSC. In addition to the project in Aktau, the country plans to implement two more large-scale urea production projects by KazESTA and KMG PetroChem LLP in partnership with SNPS-Aktobemunaygaz.

It is expected that by 2030, taking into account the launch of all investment projects, the projected volume of ammonia production will reach 2.3 million tons. Thanks to these measures, Kazakhstan will be able not only to fully meet the needs of domestic farmers but also to develop significant export potential.
