“According to data from the Hunters’ Association, there are about 15,000 hunters in the country. Multiplying this figure by the fee of 660 lei yields nearly 9.9 million lei in revenue for the budget. At the same time, the cost of the new system is approximately 1 million lei, so this revenue will fully cover the costs of its implementation and allow for the issuance of digital hunting licenses,” said the bill’s author, Veronica Brichag.
According to data presented at the parliamentary session, more than 400 new applications to join hunting clubs are received annually.
Logos Press previously reported that the bill also provides for a ban on the use of drones during hunting. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles will be officially equated with poaching.
The authors of the initiative note that the current definition of “illegal hunting” does not cover all actions that could be considered poaching. The new version of Article 20 proposes to establish that hunting conducted during prohibited periods, in prohibited areas, or using means, systems, and methods prohibited by law shall be considered illegal.
Thus, poaching will include the pursuit of wild animals using any means of transportation, including drones.
In addition, the bill prohibits the use of night-vision devices and thermal imagers during hunting. Illegal hunting will also include the use of unregistered or improper hunting weapons, hunting without the required documents, and the use of invalid or another person’s permits and hunting licenses.
