At present, the system—built with a grant from IFAD (more than 8 million lei) and a relatively small contribution from the farmers themselves— includes two lakes and a distribution pipeline capable of supplying water to farmland (primarily orchards) covering more than 80 hectares. With additional funding under the project, construction of a road leading from the reservoir to the farmers’ fields will begin shortly.
As Iurie Ușurelu, director of the Implementation Unit (UCIP) for the IFAD Moldova program, noted to Logos Press, with financial support from the IFAD VIII program—which began last year and will conclude in the spring of 2027— 16 “small-scale” irrigation systems will be established in Moldova, covering a total area of nearly 900 hectares, and approximately 145 sets of various types of irrigation equipment (drip and subsurface) will be purchased.
