During a press briefing, Maia Sandu emphasized that the details of these disagreements concern only the parties involved and declined to comment on the substance of specific grievances.
“The Prime Minister did not set forth any conditions regarding restructuring, the fight against corruption, or other issues. In our conversations, he raised only one objection, which concerns his personal relationship with the Minister of Education and Research. I do not believe I am the person who should discuss Mr. Munteanu’s specific objections or complaints regarding the minister,” the president stated.
The head of state confirmed that the government’s mandate remains unchanged and continues to focus on restoring order and ensuring the effective functioning of state institutions.
Responding to journalists’ questions about a possible scenario in which the current Minister of Education, Dan Perchun, could temporarily lead the government as acting prime minister, Maia Sandu called for strict adherence to the procedures set forth in the Constitution and declined to confirm or deny specific candidates.
“Please, let’s respect the Constitution. As I said earlier, the consultation process begins next week. We will see what decisions the parliamentary factions make and which of these candidates will receive majority support,” the president concluded.
According to legislative procedure, following a round of consultations with the parliamentary factions, the head of state must officially nominate a candidate for the office of prime minister.”
