This was announced by Government Secretary-General Alexei Buz. The latest information indicates that the process of voluntary consolidation has accelerated.
According to him, today the Roscani mayor’s office (Anenii Noi district) will approve a decision to merge with two other mayor’s offices—Telita and Calfa. The new mayor’s office will receive 12 million lei for investments in services and infrastructure.
As Logos Press previously reported, mayors and local elected officials from 17 villages in the Călărași district decided to merge earlier this week. The government has promised to provide their residents with payments totaling 145 million lei.
Alexei Buzu clarified that municipalities that have not yet decided on voluntary merger have until the end of July to do so. The merger process itself will be streamlined. Until the 2027 local elections, municipalities will continue to operate in their current format.
As a reminder, at the end of January of this year, the government officially announced the launch of the process to prepare for local public administration reform.
Later, the Cabinet of Ministers amended the regulatory framework for the reform, under which state financial support per resident of a merged municipality was tripled—from 1,000 lei to 3,000 lei.
