The highest average pensions were received by certain categories of civil aviation workers. They averaged 18,800 lei, with men’s pensions being significantly higher at 19,800 lei and women’s at 13,200 lei. A total of 398 people received these pensions, including 106 women.
Gender and Regional Disparities Persist
In this context, it is worth noting that a gender gap persists in Moldova. The average pension for men is nearly 1,000 lei higher than that for women. The regional gap also remains significant. The average pension in Chisinau is 42% higher than the national average.
The average pension in the capital was 6,840.2 lei. Next is the municipality of Balti (5,581.56 lei). In other districts, the average pension ranges from 3,653.4 lei in the Nisporeni district to 4,576.9 lei in the Ialoveni district.
According to updated data from the National Social Insurance Fund, as of July 1 of this year, 669,974 people in Moldova were receiving pensions. This is 1,600 fewer people than a year earlier.
The vast majority of pensioners (about 79%) receive an old-age pension. As of July 1 of this year, the average amount was 4,810.4 lei (4,515 lei for women and 5,377 lei for men). Nearly 94,000 people, or 14%, receive disability pensions. The average amount of these benefits is 3,242.8 lei, with men receiving 3,364.7 lei and women 3,144.7 lei.
There are several other categories of pension recipients: survivors’ pensions (4,299 lei), pensions for participants in the cleanup of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident (7,132 lei), early old-age pensions (about 4,742 lei), pensions for long service (8,818 lei), and others.
While the total number of pensioners nationwide has decreased, the number of recipients whose pensions were transferred abroad under bilateral agreements has, conversely, increased. As of early July, there were 2,372 such recipients, compared to 2,107 a year earlier. The average amount of their payments was 3,274.4 lei and 3,167.5 lei, respectively.
