In Bălți, inspectors identified four violations. Three citations were issued to individuals, totaling 1,800 lei. Another citation was issued to a legal entity for 3,000 lei. In the Soroca District, an individual was fined an additional 600 lei.
According to ANSP, ragweed begins to bloom actively in late July through early August. Its pollen is one of the most common allergens and can cause a runny nose, sneezing, itching, and watery eyes, and in more severe cases, coughing and difficulty breathing.
It was noted that in 2025, the rate of reported seasonal allergic reactions in Moldova rose to 15 cases per 10,000 residents, compared to 4.7 cases the previous year.
For the authorities, combating ragweed is not merely a public health issue. The plant spreads rapidly and poses a problem for agricultural land. Therefore, responsibility for its eradication rests not only with government agencies but also with landowners and land users.
It should be noted that in 2026, the government changed its approach to combating ragweed. In March, a new set of measures was approved, providing for the identification of hotspots where the plant is spreading and their mapping at the local level. Landowners and users are required to eradicate ragweed, while local authorities must identify infested areas and notify those responsible for their maintenance.
For businesses and private landowners, this means additional obligations regarding land maintenance. Fines are imposed for noncompliance: for individuals, from 600 to 1,500 lei; for legal entities, from 3,000 to 6,000 lei.
