
During the congress, Vasile Bumacov thanked his colleagues for their trust and presented his vision of the party’s future, pledging to strengthen the territorial organizations, attract new professionals and turn the formation into a modern, strong and respected political force.
He emphasized that, given the complex risks the country is facing, Moldova needs experience, a balanced approach and people who know what to do from the first day in office. Bumacov promised to act honestly, listening to the needs of citizens in order to build a “united Moldova”.
Another former agriculture minister and ex-director of the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), Ion Sula, as well as Alexandru Cauia were elected as first vice-chairmen of the formation.
The vice chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Romania, MEP Vasile Dâncu, who was present at the event, wished success to the new chairman and confirmed the support of his party:
“Any party is not built in offices, but among people. I am convinced that the European Social Democratic Party will achieve its political goals and return to running the country”.
The congress was also attended by Valeriu Cican, former Minister of Finance and former Chairman of the Administrative Board of the National Commission for Financial Market.
The Social Democratic Party of Europe (PSDE) was created in 2022 as a result of the reorganization of the former Democratic Party of Moldova. The formation underwent an extensive rebranding process to distance itself from a controversial past associated with PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc.
