An IAEA team at Zaporizhzhya NPP detected light smoke from a neighboring thermal power plant and heard sounds of military activity. According to available information, workers of Zaporizhzhya TPP are now in shelters. This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the IAEA.

At the moment, the only power line remains connected. However, the incident is of serious concern because of the condition of the only power line that remains at ZNPP. It has already failed several times in recent weeks, causing the plant to switch entirely to emergency diesel generators to provide the power needed to cool the six reactors and prevent a nuclear accident.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for an immediate halt to the attack to avoid a prolonged loss of power to the nuclear facility.

On June 3, ZNPP was left without external power supply for the 17th time after a drone strike on a substation on the opposite bank of the Dnieper River. Emergency diesel generators took over the load, but the nuclear safety situation was once again jeopardized.
