Logos Press previously reported that construction was scheduled to be completed in October or November of this year.
The temporary bridge will be 276 meters long. The structure includes 24 metal supports embedded in the ground, metal beams, and reinforced concrete deck slabs. So far, 96 meters of the bridge have been built; work is gradually moving toward the middle of the Dniester Riverbed, and starting with the 12th support, construction will take place on Moldovan territory, Autostrada announced on Facebook.
The temporary bridge will provide an alternative transportation link between the two countries and open a route between the cities of Vinnytsia and Soroca. This route will be approximately 30 km shorter than the current one.
Autostrada explained that the construction of the temporary bridge will lay the groundwork for resuming construction of the main 1,309-meter-long international bridge across the Dniester. Work on this large-scale infrastructure project began back in 2021, but was suspended after the outbreak of full-scale war.
Currently, a ferry service connects the two banks of the Dniester between Yampol and Cosăuți.
The authorities of Ukraine and Moldova agreed to build this bridge in the summer of 2023. Its full-scale launch is scheduled for mid-2027. The project’s planned length is over 1,400 meters; the design includes two lanes of traffic and sidewalks on both sides, with a capacity of up to 5,000 vehicles per day. The bridge will reduce travel time between Kyiv and Chisinau to 5 hours (down from 8–11 hours, depending on the route).
