Total grain production also set a record at 376.563 million tons, nearly 18.8 million tons more than a year earlier.
Other crops also set production records, with wheat at 120.657 million tons, corn at 55.092 million tons, oilseeds at 43.059 million tons, and peanuts, rapeseed and mustard. Production of pulses continues to grow and this trend is expected to continue in the coming years, Indian Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said, TV BRICS reported.
The Minister attributes the growth of grain production to the state support of agriculture, the use of new varieties of seeds and more efficient work of farmers. The country’s authorities also intend to stimulate the development of horticulture, cotton sector and offer mixed farm models for small farmers.
India’s performance reflects a broader trend among BRICS and BRICS+ countries, with rice playing a central role in food security, agricultural innovation and international cooperation programs.
