“Since July 16, Energocom has held five rounds of auctions for standardized quarterly and annual energy products to replenish its gas portfolio for the cold season. The auctions were organized in accordance with the natural gas procurement procedure approved by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development,” the company said in a statement.
Two lots totaling up to 276,000 MWh were offered at the auctions for the fourth quarter of 2026, two annual lots totaling up to 365,000 MWh, and one lot totaling up to 270,000 MWh for the first quarter of 2027. Thus, the total volume of gas procured amounts to approximately 0.9 to 0.91 billion cubic meters, depending on its quality and composition.
“The tenders held have made it possible to conclude contracts for a portion of the required volumes. The procurement process is ongoing, and the company is organizing new tenders in accordance with the approved strategy and depending on market conditions”, the statement said.
The process of signing contracts for gas volumes for the 2026–2027 gas year will continue until the end of October.
Under the new tariffs
As previously reported, last week Energocom submitted a request to Moldova’s National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) to increase regulated natural gas rates by 45.1%, as natural gas prices in Europe have risen sharply due to renewed tensions in the Middle East.
According to Energocom, the existing regulated prices were calculated based on the weighted average purchase price of natural gas in 2026, which was 404.24 euros per 1,000 cubic meters; However, estimates indicate that this price currently stands at approximately 623.54 euros per 1,000 cubic meters for the period from August through December 2026.
The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) announced on Tuesday that on July 24 it will review a request from Energocom to increase the regulated natural gas tariff paid by residential consumers.
The state-owned company Energocom was designated as the country’s official gas supplier and granted the right to provide utility services starting September 1, 2025, replacing MoldovaGas JSC, whose gas supply license was revoked by ANRE. Currently, Energocom accounts for more than 90% of the gas imported into right-bank Moldova and supplies gas to more than 830,000 consumers.
Moldova imports approximately 0.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, purchasing it on international commodity exchanges, primarily in Romania.
