Global Terrorism Index 2026

This finding is contained in the 13th Global Terrorism Index 2026 report by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

To prepare the reports, GTI uses Dragonfly’s TerrorismTracker database, which contains detailed and structured records of every publicly reported terrorist incident since January 2007.

In 2025, the Index recorded a significant decline in terrorism worldwide. The number of terrorism-related deaths fell by 28% to 5,582, and the number of terrorist attacks decreased by nearly 22% to 2,944. The improvement was widespread, with 81 countries showing improvement. Only 19 countries deteriorated, the lowest rate of deterioration in the Index’s history. However, there was a significant increase in terrorism in Western countries, which accounted for seven of the 19 deteriorations.

According to the researchers, the most dangerous countries in terms of terrorism are Pakistan (8.574 points), Burkina Faso (8.324) and Niger (7.816).

Israel is in 10th place (6.79), Russia is 17th (5.593), the US is 28th (4.521, up six places from last year), and Germany is 29th (4.447).

In the list of moderately dangerous destinations – Egypt is the favorite of Moldovan tourists at 32 positions (3.465), next to Turkey at 36 positions (3.212). Tourist Greece is in 40th place, right after Ukraine, where, as we know, there is a war.

Also among the “average” are Italy, Spain, France, China, Austria, Poland, Belarus and others.

Starting from the 100th place there is a list of 64 states with 0 points. Among them is the Republic of Moldova. Next to us are Romania and Bulgaria, where vacations are safer, although less comfortable than in Turkey, Egypt and Greece.
