During a conversation with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain, Trump said that after the end of the war with Iran, he expects those of them who are not yet parties to the Abrahamic Accords or do not have peace agreements with Israel to join them and normalize relations with the Jewish state, two American officials told the portal, writes interfax.ru.
According to them, the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Pakistan, which do not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel, were surprised by Trump’s request.
According to Israeli and US officials, Riyadh will not take any steps on the issue ahead of Israeli elections scheduled for September, the publication notes.
Axios recalls that Saudi officials continue to demand that Israel make irreversible and time-bound commitments to the establishment of a Palestinian state as a condition for normalizing relations. The Israeli government refuses to do so.
The Abraham Accords were negotiated with U.S. participation during the Trump administration’s first term in 2020 between Israel and three Arab countries – Bahrain, UAE and Morocco. The agreements include the establishment of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies, as well as cooperation in the economy and other areas.
