
This initiative is seen as an important step to facilitate trade and economic ties, strengthen economic cooperation and boost travel between Moldova and China.
At the meeting, the sides reviewed the development of bilateral relations and discussed prospects for enhancing cooperation in different fields. The sides reiterated the importance of maintaining a permanent dialog based on mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The sides paid special attention to the economic and trade cooperation, including the expansion of Moldovan exports to the Chinese market, especially of agricultural goods and wine. The sides also discussed investment potential and the consolidation of contacts between business circles.
In addition, the officials agreed to hold a new round of inter-ministerial political consultations aimed at identifying new opportunities for sectoral cooperation.
Mihai Popşoi stressed that Moldova remains firmly committed to the European integration process, which is a strategic goal reflecting the citizens’ aspirations to modernize the country.
For his part, Minister Wang Yi spoke about China’s openness to consolidate cooperation with Moldova. The Chinese diplomat highlighted the significant potential of the Chinese market for Moldovan products, especially wine, as China is one of the world’s biggest importers of agricultural products. In this context, the prospect of expanding imports and deepening bilateral trade was emphasized.
Wang Yi also expressed China’s respect for the development path chosen by Moldova and its European integration goal. In addition, he thanked the Moldovan authorities for their assistance in ensuring the transit and evacuation of Chinese students at the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
The last visit of the Moldovan foreign minister to China took place in 2018.
