The Chisinau Sustainable Urban Mobility and Transport Project is implemented with the support of UN-Habitat (UN-Habitat) under the UN-funded initiative “Rebuilding safe, sustainable and resilient transport and urban mobility systems in landlocked developing countries in the Western Balkans and Central Asia regions”.
“The Chisinau municipality’s participation in the 13th World Urban Forum is an important opportunity to promote the capital’s strategic projects, exchange best practices with other local public administration authorities and strengthen international cooperation in the field of sustainable urban development,” Ceban said.
The event brings together mayors, international experts and dignitaries from around the world to discuss 21st century urban challenges and solutions for the development of modern and resilient cities.
Among the main areas of discussion include.: integrating urban mobility into urban planning processes, using GIS systems and mobility data for evidence-based decision-making, developing public transport infrastructure and active mobility, establishing permanent coordination mechanisms between municipal departments, and integrating the goals of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) into annual investment and budgeting processes.
On the margins of the forum, Ion Ceban met with Baku Mayor Eldar Azizov.
“We talked about Chisinau, about Baku, about governance and about the excellent friendly relations we have managed to build over the past years. Of course, a separate topic was mobility, infrastructure, current projects and what we are planning for the future. I highly appreciated the openness and readiness for dialog, and we will continue cooperation in various spheres,” the capital’s mayor said.
