
EUROFISH is an international organization dedicated to the development of fisheries and aquaculture in Europe. The organization has been active since 2002 and has 13 Member States, including Romania, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Albania and Turkey. EUROFISH aims to promote sustainable development of fisheries and aquaculture, to facilitate trade in value-added fisheries products and to exchange information and expertise among Member States.
During the meeting, Mr. Marco Frederiksen presented the advantages that EUROFISH membership can offer to the Republic of Moldova. These include access to an international network of experts, participation in European projects, conferences and meetings, use of technical guidelines for producers, information on the fish and seafood market, promotion of the national fish farming sector through EUROFISH publications and platforms.
During his visit to Moldova, Marco Frederiksen met with representatives of fishing associations, as well as the enterprise “AQUAELM & CO” SRL (Ulmu, Ialoveni), one of the most technologically advanced enterprises of the aquaculture sector in Moldova. The visit provided an opportunity for the parties to assess each other’s potential, including in the production and trade of sturgeon fish and caviar.
In this context, the sides discussed the issues of processing infrastructure, food safety and traceability, certification and access to foreign markets, including the European Union market. In this context, the progress of the Republic of Moldova in harmonization with the EU legislation was assessed.
