It has been long awaited in Moldova, especially by women for whom maternity leave was not included in the social record. It was included only in the general length of service, and this shortcoming affected the value of the pension, because according to the legislation, the social length of service is taken into account first of all when calculating the pension in Moldova. This was especially true for mothers with many children.
The elimination of this shortcoming in the legislation will ensure a unified approach to the granting of pensions, the authors of the project emphasize.
According to the document, the Law on the State Pension System (lit. c) ch. (2) Article 5) will be supplemented with two periods – paternity and maternity leave.
The periods during which the insured person receives maternity or paternity benefits will be considered as non-insurance periods, but equated to insurance periods. And qualify similarly to periods of temporary disability, as well as periods of receiving unemployment and employment benefits.
It is planned that the new provisions will come into force on January 1, 2027.
