According to EastFruit monitoring data, compared to the situation in early May, the level of wholesale prices for strawberries in Moldova increased from 60 to 70 lei/kg on average. It should be assumed that imported (Greek) berries are sold at such a price on urban wholesale markets in medium and small wholesale lots.
According to representatives of the Association of Berry Producers Pomușoarele Moldovei, last week local strawberries “protected ground” (from different types of greenhouses) were sold in the range of 100-120 lei/kg, depending on the caliber, the size of the batch and other aspects of the transaction. The goods are selling well, and given the rather high demand and unstable weather conditions, a sharp decrease in prices is unlikely to be expected for at least another week.
Fluctuating prices for imported strawberries this month, according to the industry association, are related to the frequency of their delivery. During this period of the season it is not always stable. At the same time, imported berries “live in retail” longer than local berries, by the time of expiration of their shelf life, they can be significantly discounted.
