According to a report from the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, the meeting was attended by representatives of the deputy corps of the PAG and the Moldovan parliament, the Central Electoral Commission, as well as the presidential advisor.
“During the meeting, the main inconsistencies and contradictions between the electoral legislation of the Republic of Moldova and ATU Gagauzia were discussed. Following the discussions, the parties managed to work out compromise solutions on key issues,” the PAG said.
The prepared document will be presented to the deputy corps this week, after which it will be submitted to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia for consideration as soon as possible.
Transitional stage towards a long-term solution
The key provisions of the document are the approval by the legislative body of the autonomy of the permanent electoral body of Gagauzia, as well as setting the date of elections.
For the period of the election campaign it is proposed to be guided by the provisions of the Law “On the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri)”, the Electoral Code of RM, the Electoral Code of Gagauzia and the relevant Decision of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, regulating the legal contradictions arising.
The mentioned Decision will be temporary and will be applied exclusively within the framework of the elections of PAG deputies of the VIII convocation in 2026.
The report of the Moldovan Presidency stresses that during the meeting, the working group discussed the basic principles underlying the organization of elections – transparency, equality and respect for fundamental human rights.
In this context, the group is in the process of finalizing a set of clear and fair rules, fully compliant with the national legal framework and electoral standards in force in Moldova.
