Plugaru spoke out in support of women’s right to “determine their own destiny”

Natalia Plugaru, Minister of Labor and Social Protection, as a champion of the global SheDecides movement, has committed to promoting gender equality, bodily autonomy, and the right of women and girls to make their own decisions “about their lives and futures” in Moldova.

In this capacity, the minister will present the Republic of Moldova’s experience in promoting gender equality and social protection, as well as foster international cooperation in this area. She will also share the country’s experience in fulfilling international obligations, including the Istanbul Convention.

“In Moldova, we firmly believe that every woman and every girl should have the opportunity to decide for herself how to shape her life, have control over her own body, and determine her own future. Rights that exist only on paper are not enough to achieve this. What is needed is safety, economic independence, equal opportunities, and the freedom to live without violence and discrimination,” stated Natalia Plugaru.

It should be noted that the global SheDecides movement was created in response to the Donald Trump administration’s 2017 decision to cut funding to foreign organizations involved in abortion services. It advocates for bodily autonomy, gender equality, and sexual and reproductive rights—including access to safe and legal abortion—by bringing together governments, NGOs, and other international partners.
