Moment of signing the agreement
“We discussed all the key areas and priorities of the state’s development. First of all, trade and economic cooperation… We agreed to continue work on simplifying border crossing procedures and developing border infrastructure, which should first of all speed up the passage of border zones,” Sviridenko said during a joint media interview with Munteanu after the talks in Kiev.
Sviridenko said that during the meeting they discussed the possibility of increasing the reserves of Moldovan gas stored in Ukraine.
Three agreements were signed
Following talks held in Kiev in the presence of Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Moldova and Ukraine signed three bilateral agreements. The documents confirm the two states’ joint commitment to consolidate cooperation in a string of fields of mutual interest.
The agreement on cooperation in the process of repatriation of unaccompanied children establishes common mechanisms for the identification, protection and safe return of children to their permanent residence. The document will expedite the actions of the authorities and establish direct cooperation between competent institutions in accordance with international child protection standards.
Also today, the officials signed a protocol facilitating the creation of a border crossing point on the state border between Moldova and Ukraine, “Coseuti-Yampol”, with the status of a point open to international traffic. Thus, a road bridge will be built between the settlements of Coseuti and Iampol across the Dniester River, which will simplify the border crossing for the inhabitants of this region and for carriers.
Another document signed refers to the right to paid work for family members of employees of diplomatic and consular missions. Depending on their qualifications, they will be able to carry out professional activities in the host country for the entire duration of the diplomatic mission.
The prime ministers agreed to meet Romania in April in the format of the Odessa Triangle to deepen cooperation in the security sector.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy: ‘Ukraine and Moldova must follow a joint path towards the EU’
During Alexandru Munteanu’s visit to Kyiv, he was received by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On his social media page, he reported that bilateral projects in the fields of energy, rail transport and infrastructure were discussed at the meeting.
‘Thank you for your support for Ukraine and our people. We have a shared vision of the future in the European Union, and Ukraine and Moldova’s path to the EU must be joint so that everyone in our region benefits from the strengthening of our peoples and Europe as a whole,’ Zelensky said.
As Alexandru Munteanu emphasised, the parties also discussed ways to further strengthen the close ties between the two countries.
“The Republic of Moldova and Ukraine want the same thing: a sky above our heads that we can look at with hope for the future, not with fear. We want to build a world in which our children live in freedom, and on this path we are reliable partners, united not only by a common border, but also by democratic values and European aspirations,” the prime minister said.
