Press conference of Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Ukrainian Prime Minister Iulia Sviridenko

This statement was made by Ukrainian Prime Minister Iulia Sviridenko at a joint press conference with Alexandru Munteanu, who is on a visit to Kiev.

“We highly appreciate that Moldovan companies keep gas reserves in Ukrainian underground storage facilities. Moreover, the tariffs offered by the Ukrainian side are quite favorable and we hope for further cooperation in this field,” Sviridenco said.

She also said that Ukraine highly appreciates Moldova’s role as an important partner in the transportation sector.

“We agreed to continue work on simplification of procedures and development of border infrastructure, which should speed up the passage of border and customs control, primarily for Ukrainians, which will contribute to the development of trade and transit. We also discussed the development of border infrastructure and the construction of the Koseuc-Yampol bridge,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliya Sviridenko said.

The sides also agreed to continue consultations in the trilateral format, the so-called “Odessa Triangle” (Ukraine, Moldova, Romania), to discuss in detail cooperation in the field of transportation, logistics and supply, which is especially important given the threats in the region.

Moldova confirmed solidarity

For his part, the Moldovan prime minister reiterated that Moldova remains in solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. He noted that today, more than 130,000 displaced citizens from Ukraine are on the Moldovan territory.

Alexandru Munteanu also recalled that the Moldovan government approved a new humanitarian aid package. This cargo will arrive in Kiev today and will include ambulances, electric generators, personal protection means, medical goods and foodstuffs.

Munteanu also had a meeting with Oleksandr Kornienko, the first deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The meeting was also attended by the head of the group of inter-parliamentary relations between Ukraine and Moldova, chairman of the Committee for National Health, Medical Care and Health Insurance Mihailo Radutsky.

This was Alexandru Munteanu’s first official visit to Ukraine as Prime Minister. According to the government’s press service, the purpose of the visit was to “express solidarity and discuss with Ukrainian partners the issues of bilateral cooperation, progress in the process of accession to the European Union and regional security”.
