Oleg Ozerov, Russia’s ambassador to Chisinau, made this statement in an interview with TASS.
“Statements by Moldovan officials regarding the possibility of retaining the benefits of CIS-format agreements after withdrawing from the organization will most likely prove to be unfounded. Moldova risks losing its membership in a number of treaties, including the Free Trade Area, as these are inextricably linked to other documents limited solely to the Commonwealth countries. This was precisely the conclusion reached on June 19 following a meeting of CIS experts on the inventory and Chisinau’s continued participation in the agreements it has signed,” said the Russian diplomat.
He noted that Chisinau’s pragmatic approach to cooperation with Russia and the post-Soviet states has yielded tangible benefits. “GDP growth for 2011–2021 reached nearly 41 percent,” noted Oleg Ozerov.
