A decision will be made today regarding the possibility of releasing water from the Dniester Reservoir in September

A meeting of the Moldovan-Ukrainian Commission on the Dniester is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. today. The initial data, which will serve as the basis for determining the parties’ course of action in September, do not inspire optimism.

The Roaring Dniester

As Ilya Trombitsky, director of Eco-TIRAS, noted on his Facebook page, last week’s rainfall caused water flow in the lower Dniester to raise the water level in the Dubossary Reservoir to 28.2 meters above sea level.

However, rainfall in the Moldovan section of the Dniester has little effect on conditions in the upper reaches of the river. Yesterday, for the first time, the water level in the Dniester Reservoir fell below the 112-meter mark above sea level. The inflow of water into the reservoir is approximately 40 cubic meters per second. The situation is very tense.
