According to the head of the institution, a laboratory will be established within the organization to provide testing services for European and Ukrainian varieties of industrial hemp, as well as to develop recommendations for Moldovan farmers on its cultivation.
Anatolie Spivachenko noted that climate change requires agricultural producers to adopt resource-saving technologies, known as “conservation agriculture.” Specifically, this involves adhering to crop rotations and including a wider range of crops that are resistant to drought and other extreme weather conditions. Industrial hemp is one such crop.
The cultivation of industrial hemp in Moldova has been officially permitted since 2024. The country has an Association of Hemp Producers and Processors. The area under cultivation for this crop totals several hundred hectares.
