Trump Threatened Canada with Higher Tariffs Over Forest Pollution

White House Chief Donald Trump accused Canada of failing to clean up litter in its forests, which, in his view, is causing air pollution in the United States, and therefore threatened Canada with higher customs duties.

He wrote about this on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“We hold Canada responsible for failing to properly manage its forests and shrublands, and for subjecting the United States to an unnecessary influx of dirty and harmful air, the quality of which is at a dangerous and absolutely unacceptable level! I will call the prime minister this afternoon to find out what they plan to do about this,” Trump wrote.

According to the U.S. president, Canada “has abandoned basic forest management and trash cleanup, knowing full well that such neglect would lead to exactly this result.”

“This is willful negligence that has become an annual occurrence, costing the United States billions of dollars, and the cost of this pollution must be added to the tariffs that Canada currently pays.”

Earlier reports indicated that last week, Donald Trump instructed the U.S. Trade Representative to impose 25% tariffs on most imports from Brazil.
