At a press conference held shortly after the document was filed, company executives directly linked the price increase to the war in the Middle East.
According to the supplier, the price of forward contracts for gas to be delivered in the coming months will rise from 30 to 56 euros per megawatt-hour—nearly doubling in just a few weeks.
By law, ANRE has up to 180 days to respond, and even within the company, board member Alexandru Slusar resigned in protest against the request.
At the same press conference, the culprit behind the price hike was identified. It turned out to be U.S. President Donald Trump.
Energocom representatives cited his decisions as decisive in the situation that has developed in the country:
“On July 7, an unforeseen situation arose when U.S. President Donald Trump notified Congress that he was launching a second military operation in the Middle East. In response to this news, the entire global gas market reacted, and prices skyrocketed overnight. From our perspective, this was something that no one—not a single person or trader—could have predicted.”
Energocom Director Eugen Buzațu added that “on July 7, the price on the exchanges was more or less stable and favorable for not reacting to the rise in tariffs [in Moldova]. After statements about the conflict continuing, the situation reversed, and overnight the price changed from 42 euros to 54 euros” per megawatt.
