Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line nearing completion

The deadline for the completion of installation works is the last week of May, while the line's commissioning and testing phases should be completed during June. This is reported by the Energy Ministry, referring to the visit of Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu to the Vulcanesti power plant.

During the visit, the Minister checked the progress of works at the power plant and discussed with representatives of contractors and responsible institutions the final stages before commissioning the infrastructure. The full installation of measuring transformers, creation of secondary connections and the start of the equipment commissioning stages will follow shortly.

At the same time, the minister inspected the Chisinau power plant, where the works on the laying of cable channels, the construction of retractable shafts and the fulfillment of underground passages are under way. At the same time, the installation and assembly of the container for protection systems is being finalized.

“This project is the foundation of Moldova’s energy security for the next decades. We are entering the final stage, the most complex and technically responsible one, where every detail is important. I arrived unannounced to see the real pace of work and the degree of preparation on the ground. The Vulcanesti-Chisinau line will replace the Vulcanesti-MGRES line, which has strategic vulnerabilities and a high degree of wear and tear,” Energy Minister Dorin Jungietu said.

The Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line is about 157 kilometers long and connects the Vulcanesti power plant (400 kV) with the Chisinau power plant (330 kV). The line has a capacity of up to 630 MWa, which will cover more than 50% of Moldova’s electricity consumption during peak periods.

The Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line is part of the Moldova Energy System Development Project financed by the World Bank Group. The total cost of the project is approximately EUR 61 million, of which about EUR 27 million is earmarked for the construction of the transmission line.

The project is implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova through the Ministry of Energy and the Energy Project Implementation Unit of UCIPE, and the direct beneficiary is I.S. Moldelectrica.
