Daniil Getmantsev, Member of the Verkhovna Rada
This was stated by Danylo Getmantsev, chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, according to ZN.ua.
According to the Ukrainian MP, the situation regarding the financing of state budget expenditures is “alarming.” “There are several reasons for this. Shortfalls in budget revenue, as well as some—to put it mildly—ill-conceived decisions in the defense sector. But those are not the only factors. An objective slowdown in economic growth has led to a situation where problems will arise even if we fulfill 100% of our obligations and receive all confirmed funds,” Getmantsev noted.
Given the inevitable problems, the lawmaker called on the Verkhovna Rada to vote this plenary week in favor of fulfilling obligations to the IMF and the EU, “setting aside politics that are teetering on the brink.” Otherwise, the situation will become even worse.
The Cabinet of Ministers, led by Serhiy Koretsky, inherited an economy with virtually zero growth, a lack of investment, and increasingly costly macrofinancial stability, notes ZN.ua.
Therefore, the government’s top priority should be to build up production capacity, the publication argues.
